Hello Bloggers Today I will be talking about Hōne Heke. He was a rangatira (chief). He was a strong, fearless warrior, and an intelligent leader. Hōne Heke was the first rangatira to sign Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) in 1840. However he got frustrated and angry at how the British were treating the Māori. To protest, he cut down the flagpole that flew the British flag. Sometimes when we feel strongly (frustrated, angry, happy, excited) it is hard to put our feelings into words. We can use sayings to help explain our feelings. In Te Reo Māori, some people may use a whakataukī. Now I will be giving some facts.
1. Hōne Heke was born in Pakaraka.
2. He was born on 7 August 1807
3. Hōne Heke's full name is Hōne Heke's full name is Hōone Wiremu Heke Pōka.
Those are the facts I know. Now I have to look at the Whakatauki and choose the word I like and I will make a google drawing.
Here is my link.
Thank You For Watching I hope you like my blog! Bye Bye!
