Summer Learning Journey (Day 3 Week 2 Actvity 1)

Women's Rights

Hi Bloggers! Today I will be talking about Kate Sheppard. She was a very important New Zealander because she helped to women to get the right to vote. Women in NZ were first allowed to vote in 1893. This made NZ the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. We call this right women’s suffrageTo remember Kate Sheppard’s role in giving women the vote, her image on our $10 note. Now I will be giving some facts.

1. Kate Sheppard was born in United Kingdom.

2. Kate's full name is Kate Sheppard née Catherine Wilson Malcolm.

3. Kate Sheppard was born 10 March 1848.

Those are the facts I know. Now I have to Imagine that the government has decided to create a new $10 bank note. They want to replace Kate with a picture of a different NZ woman.

I think it should be Jacinda Ardern because she is the Prime minister and Jacinda is the world's youngest female head of government, and only the second to become a mother while still in office.

Thank You For Watching I hope you like my blog! Bye Bye!

  1. Nǐ hǎo Aamena,

I really like how you’ve chosen Jacinda Ardern for this activity - it shows you have been inspired by other SLJ activities and it’s cool to see you making connections like that. Jacinda Ardern is an incredible woman isn't she, and I think she would be very deserving of being on the $10 note if it was to ever change! If you could ask her one thing, what would it be?
